All our beneficiaries gain practical skills and 1-1 support with work which they can put on their CVs. We also offer help with preparing and updating CVs, interview skills and searching and applying for jobs. Those who complete a successful placement will be provided with a reference.
Hospitality and customer service
We support people to gain practical skills and experience in our conference centre in Herne Bay, as well as supporting our serviced office tenants and virtual office customers, you can learn about dealing with customers on a day to day basis, handling enquiries face-to-face or on the telephone, making bookings and arranging meetings for customers.
Work experience provided at Kent Enterprise House is structured to cover a choice of skills chosen by the participant. We provide a list that is representative of what we offer, but it is mainly just for inspiration and a framework to start from – we can, and do, have more. We work through a tool called a “Growth Journey”, designed specifically for people that have varying development needs. This helps us to form a picture of the candidate at the outset, and then design and build a programme of activity that meets their individual needs over a pre-determined period of time. A normal placement is circa 64 hours, of which 24 hours will be guided learning hours. The other 40 hours will be real work experience depending on the skills choice of the participants and their ability.
The Growth Journey is where a beneficiary selects the skills that they would like to develop within the course length. These skills are assessed with a mentor at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the scheme, providing a measure of progress and allowing for adjustments to be made as necessary to ensure the participant gains a meaningful experience. We know that everyone is different and has different needs and goals, so we strive to offer everyone a programme tailored around them. Participants can be involved in a range of projects or focus on just one. All activities can be mixed and matched depending on what skill they would like or need to develop. At the end of the experience we are able to give a reference to any potential employer.
Every participant is interviewed before a place can be offered, dates and times are then agreed which will not interfere with their existing commitments, be those family, the Job Centre, interviews or other activities.
